I listened to The Stevens a bunch while driving 9 hours each way to move my shit from Bathurst to Melbourne. Perfect driving music. Good to hear new stuff from these guys.

about
first single from forthcoming second album "Good" by The Stevens.
Chancer is a super-catchy, fuzzy pop gem, about which guitarist/singer Travis MacDonald says - "I thought it'd be funny to write an anthemic sounding rock song about wanting to be unknown. I wrote it a few years ago, it was going to be on the last record, but it didn't sound right. There weren't enough guitars or crash cymbals. If you wanna be forgotten, a lot of guitars and crash cymbals are a great way to communicate this. Its also about heartache."
This LP is, as we say in Australia, a ripper. Perfect from start to finish with it's jangly sounds and melodies, but still with a fair bit of an edge to it. It's hard not to listen to it all in the one sitting, though at only 22 and a half minutes you pretty much can anyway. The short length of the album is the only fault I can find, and Chitter Chatter is, I reckon, one of the tracks of the year. No. 48 in my Top 100 Albums Of 2016 & Chitter Chatter No. 12 in my Top 20 Tracks Of 2016. Gavin Hellyer
Love the guitar work on this album. So layered and filled with hooks. A great album to listen to on a summer's drive. The lyrics are opaque but filled with emotion. stuartelm
An easy-to-love combination of emo and jangle pop, the first full album from Spirit Night in eight years feels bathed in a golden glow. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 8, 2023
Sincerely sweet indie pop in the late 90s-era Belle & Sebastian mold, trending more towards chamber pop than shambling rock. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 16, 2024
Love the Stroppies. I keep buying their vinyl in the hope that they realise they have fans in Leeds and will come up here when next in the UK. bob longworth
